March 12, 2009As some of you may know, my very best friend from high school Julie (Morrison) Kelly was killed last summer in a very tragic plane crash off the coast of Florida. Her son Jake was just then graduating from Carmel High School going on to play at Iowa for the Hawkeyes when this terrible accident happend. Jake was Julile's pride and joy and she was so thrilled that Jake had made it to Iowa and had groomed him to make it to the NBA. This was their dream. Now, Jake is playing for the Hawkeyes and will be playing against Michigan on Thursday at 1 PM in the first round of the Big Ten here in Indianapolis! . Last week Jake was voted "Player of the Week". I am very proud of him and will be thinking of my dear friend Julie, who loved him so much. I miss her terribly. She taught me about fitness and working out when I was young, before there was such a thing as personal trainers, she was mine. She was my cheerleading mentior coach and claims she taught Jake "everything he knows about basketball" through making him watch and study Larry Bird videos! Julie also taught P.E. to special needs children which I admired in her so much. She was very special to me. She was my first "best friend" that I've lost. God bless her! I'm sure she will be watching!
